Family day at the park

I mean, almost everyday is family day now that I am finished school. But today was special because we all colour coordinated our outfits. haha. We went to a really pretty park not far from where we live and the girls loved seeing all the turtles in the pond. Mind you we have our very own turtle named the Hulk a.k.a Hulky, so we told them they were all his brothers and sisters. It was such a pretty day and there were a lot of students taking their prom photos there as well. It seems like yesterday that it was my prom. sigh. And I do not even want to think about when it will be my daughter's prom! So sad. I apologize for the amount of pictures I posted, I had to post most of them. It is almost father's day so it is fitting for the coming holiday :)

Homemade Organic Eczema Cream

My eldest daughter has had eczema since she was a baby. For years we had gone back and forth to the Doctor for medications that I was always so hesitant to give to her. I'm not saying that they do not work, but I was uncomfortable with using creams on her skin I knew contained steroids and other chemicals. I tried a lot of other remedies too including ones from Lush, and countless lotions from shoppers that claimed to be a more "organic" choice than prescription creams. For Elly, they never quite seemed to work. So after a few years of experimenting and researching, I finally found a method that seems to have cleared my daughter of severe outbreaks for much longer periods of time. Not to mention it is organic so I do not feel guilty using it on her precious skin. Now I know there are tons of different variations of homemade recipes for eczema, but I've tried a few and finally created my own that I believe really worked for my daughter. This is how you make it:

Ingredients:

1-4 cup Organic Oats
3/4 cup Organic coconut oil
1 tsp Sweet Almond Oil ( Carrier oil)
25-30 drops of Melaluca or Tea Tree Oil ( Essential oil)
1 tablespoon Olive oil

Method:

Step 1: Ground the oats until it's powder form. You can use a food processor or a blender. Set aside.

Step 2: In a small saucepan, heat up coconut oil and almond oil on low heat until it's a liquid consistency. Take off heat and add the drops of Tea Tree Oil then the oats and olive oil.

Step 3: Mix everything until it's properly combined. Pour into a glass jar, ( I used a mason jar from Micheals) and let harden. If it's summer or your house is a little warmer let it set in the fridge for a few hours.

Explanation:

Now I just want to explain the ingredients and their properties and why they work. All the ingredients suggested contain one or more of the following:

*Anti-oxidants and Vitamin E
*Healthy fatty acids that can help add moisture to dry skin
*Linoleic acid, which prevents water from evaporating
*Antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and anti inflammatory properties that can combat dry   flaky skin. Overall the combination is a strong tissue regenerator and can combat dry and flaky skin not to mention body odor, acne and wrinkles

Tips:

*If you want to try and create your own organic cream, remember that when you use an essential oil, you will need to add a carrier oil to dilute it in the mixture. For mine, I used Melaluca ( tea tree oil) and Sweet Almond oil.
*When purchasing organic oils, make sure that they really are organic. Some that are sold at Michaels or Walmart usually contain synthetic ingredients. You can usually find real organic ones at Health stores.
*When using oils like Sweet Almond oil, remember to consider nut allergies.

Anyways, with all that being said I hope some of you that are still looking for answers can try this out for themselves. Everyone's skin is different so it is ok to experiment if you find this doesn't work for you. I do know that anything that doesn't contain harsh chemicals is worth a shot. Blue Greek Goddess

Not that I think of myself as a Goddess or anything! I just love this whimsical bodysuit from Nastygal. I feel almost like a Greek Goddess. It's suitable for vacations or even a BBQ. The fabric is so light and flowy, and the colour is beautiful, and Blue is my favourite colour this year.

Greenery

And of course I am not only referring to the beautiful trees and foliage I encountered while looking for fun places to shoot. I love neon colours but I don't own a lot of green shades in my wardrobe. But I love this sweater! It is so bright and playful. I love to experiment with colours. I use to literally own only black and white, that was such a bad habit. Now as soon as I find something I like I automatically try to find it in the brightest colour. Just to spice things up :) My beautiful clutch in this ensemble is by a designer in New York who designs the most gorgeous clutches. His line is called " In a clutch"! Clever right?

Nerdy Chic- favourite things

Today's look is what I like to call Nerdy Chic!! Yes nerds can be chic. I am an inner nerd! I also wanted to dedicate a post to a few of my favourite things. But I could not choose just one outfit so I will spread them out over a few posts over time. Today's favourite thing is my beloved Mickey Mouse sweater. I got this sweater a year ago and I wear it everywhere! My kids love it too so thats probably why it has a warm spot in my heart. I wear this sweater when I am having a lazy day or running errands, but I also wear it out to dinner paired with ripped jeans and sandals. My favourite type of clothing is usually things that are versatile. I think I will probably start collecting more graphic sweaters..this one is running its' course haha.

Culottes and heels

Have you ever been scared to try something out of your comfort zone? Well don't!! I was so afraid for so long to try Culottes, just because I have very short legs and I felt as if this style would shorten me even more. Although they probably do, there are certain ways you can work around issues like that. Never say never! I know as someone who claims to be very in tuned with the fashion world, I should abide by all the "rules". But to me there are no rules in fashion! Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in, and if you feel confident in it, it will show. Yes I have short legs and I wore wide legged pants that landed at my ankles, so sue me. Haha. I think what really helped was the high heels which elongated my legs. See?..there are always quick fixes. The top knot and tucked in button up shirt, which was mildly sheer, turned this look into a very classy ensemble. Remember, don't ever be afraid to try something new!

Jersey Dress

This outfit really was a home run with me! I absolutely loved how comfortable it was. It is interesting how a simple dress can be so edgy and unique. If you have not yet grabbed yourself a jersey dress, you need to right away! It is another amazing way to keep your style comfy, casual and fashionable. Oh! I almost forgot to mention my beautiful bag! It is my precious Vince Camuto that I purchased from a good friend second hand. It was in great condition :) It added the perfect finishing touch. I will leave you now with a Quote of the day: " I think a hero is any person really intent on making this place a better place for all people" - remember to always be the best version of yourself! :)
